The Chamber Board of Directors voted at their regular July meeting to accept the GAC recommendation to oppose Proposition 15- Tax on Commercial and Industrial Properties for Education and Local Government Funding. We are in unprecedented times and in an economic crisis. It is not practical to move forward with this tax at this time. A tax base increase will most likely be passed onto the tenants and impact our small, local retailers. We believe that imposing more taxes on businesses when they are hurting will only put more pressure on them when they are finding it hard to make ends meet. It is being reported by many economists that almost half of our local, small businesses will not make it. While we acknowledge that our local governments and schools are adversely affected by the global pandemic too we do not support prop 15 at this time. Instead, we support a pause and an exploration in local tax reform.
