Elks Furnishings for Veterans Program helps Veterans feel at home. Combining Elks' Welcome Home Grants ($300 each), a $10,000 Elk National Foundation (ENF) Focus Grant, donated furniture & cookware, and volunteers to help to pick up and deliver items makes a big difference in their lives.
In Marin, formerly homeless veterans are usually placed in Section 8 Housing through the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development and VA Supportive Housing programs. San Rafael Elks Veterans' Committee Chair Peter Behr (himself a Navy vet), discovered that they are provided with a basic bed, at most, in their new apartments. So local Elks and community members have been donating furniture, kitchenware and dishes, and ENF Focus Grant funds help to purchase additional items, such as small appliances (microwave ovens, mixers, etc.), and to pay for extra storage space. We welcome donations of goods and services, and also referring Veterans to us for help.
