SAN RAFAEL – The San Rafael Chamber of Commerce Education Committee recently selected Dr. David Wain Coon as one of the recipients of the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Education Awards for 2015-2016.

Dr. Coon is President and Superintendent of College of Marin. His contributions include curriculum improvement, instructional excellence, personal involvement and leadership, overall program improvement, and exemplary support to the classroom.

Dr. Coon began his tenure at College of Marin in December 2010. Since his first day, he has exemplified a leadership style based on serving the students, faculty, staff and community through open and collegial communication, inclusive planning, continuous improvement and shared celebration. He has raised the profile of the College by making the facilities available to schools and community groups, welcoming them to campus and sharing with great pride the work that goes on there. His open forums create opportunities for dialogue, his participation and presence at a wide range of meetings reflect his connection with multiple stakeholders, and his outward leadership reflects the College’s commitment to taking an active role in the larger community’s priorities.

Jonathan Eldridge, College of Marin Vice President of Student Learning and Services, says, “Throughout a 25 year career in higher education, Dr. Coon has been recognized for his leadership locally, regionally and nationally. He has done much to make sure that College of Marin meets its mission of providing excellence in education.”
