ART WORKS DOWNTOWN PRESENTS:
ART ON THE FARM:
a collaborative, holiday exhibit and fundraiser for Marin Organic
featuring "Art on the Farm" artists + Art Works Downtown Studio and Associate Artists
NOV 30 - JAN 17, 2013
Art Works Downtown, in San Rafael, CA announces their holiday exhibit and fundraising event, “Art on the Farm”, a group exhibit of art and farm artifacts that will run November 30 - January 17, 2013. The Opening Reception will be held on December 14th, 5 - 8pm during 2nd Fridays Art Walk. A second reception will be held on January 11th, 5-8pm during 2nd Fridays Art Walk. Art will be displayed throughout the 40,000 sq. ft. building, from 1325 - 1337 Fourth Street, including the Marin Jewelers Guild and the new, "artist lover's cafe", Odalisque Café and Grille, right next to the main 1337 Gallery. 35+ artists studios will be open during the opening reception for holiday shopping.
The “Art on the Farm” collaborative exhibit and fundraiser includes art created by the group “Art on the Farm”-- a volunteer group of Bay Area artists and producers who have been creating art on location at Marin Organic Farms since 1998-- and art by Art Works Downtown’s Studio and Associate Artists. The exhibit will raise funds for Marin Organic’s Farm Field Studies Program. The Farm Field Studies Program offers children an opportunity for hands-on learning at a local farm or ranch about the natural world, our food supply, nutrition, the local economy, and our rich California history. Funds raised will provide scholarships so more children can participate in the program. 2d and 3d art works by 65 Bay Area artists will be displayed through out the Art Works Downtown building, including the Marin Jewelers Guild, the new Odalisque Café, the Underground Gallery, the Founders Lounge, and the new, 1325 AWD East Entrance Gallery. The 1337 Gallery will also display historical farming artifacts on loan from Marin History Museum, The Anne T. Kent Room at the Marin County Free Library, and educational posters from Marin Organic. Support of this exhibit will provide 25% of sales to Marin Organic’s Farm Field Studies Program, and 15% to Art Works Downtown non-profit art center. There are other opportunities to give, including a live giving tree in the 1337 Gallery, which will allow direct cash or credit donations to support the non-profits. The opening reception will feature vegetarian apetizers from Arizmendi Bakery of San Rafael, and local wine from Point Reyes Vineyards. Other Marin Organic producers will be present to give samples and sell their products during the reception.
Art on the Farm (artonthefarm.org) was founded in 1998 by Bolinas Farmer and art lover, Alan Mart. Alan found that unless he set regular dates to get out and create art, farming the land took up all his time. The all volunteer group has exhibited their works annually at several Marin venues, from Pt. Reyes Toby’s Feed Barn, to the Marin County Civic Center. This exhibit promises to be the most collaborative and educational of their many group exhibits. Families and school tours are welcome. A map and program of the exhibit will be provided upon entry to the main gallery at 1337 Fourth Street. Entrance is free, although a donation to the non-profit of your choice is suggested. Hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 - 5pm.
