Announcing Marin Community Clinics’ New CEO
To our valued supporters, donors, and community partners, I’m writing to share some exciting news.
On behalf of MCC’s Board of Directors, I’m pleased to announce that Brenda Shipp, MBA, CHCO, OHCC will be joining Marin Community Clinics as our new Chief Executive Officer.
After conducting a national search and interviewing a number of excellent candidates, we were pleased to meet Brenda and knew that she would be an excellent leader for MCC. We were all greatly impressed with her unwavering commitment to our mission, in depth experience, and approach to leadership. She has a reputation for driving financial sustainability and operational growth, all while staying grounded in what matters most—patients, staff, and community.
Brenda brings over 18 years’ experience in leading community health clinics. She has spent the last 10 years as Chief Operating Officer at WellSpace Health, a Federally Qualified Community Health Center in Sacramento with 32 clinics, 140,000 patients and over 1,100 employees. Like MCC, WellSpace Health provides comprehensive services, including adult and pediatric primary care, women’s health, pediatric dental care, behavioral health, and specialty care. Previously, Brenda served in several senior leadership positions at Lifelong Medical Care in Berkeley, another well-established community clinic. (See below for more details on Brenda’s background.)
One of Brenda’s many impressive qualities is encouraging environments where both patients and staff can thrive—aligning perfectly with MCC’s mission to serve with compassion and excellence. Her approach is rooted in trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Kathie Powell, to whom we are most grateful for serving as Interim CEO since last Fall, will work closely with Brenda to ensure a smooth transition.
We are looking forward to Brenda joining us in Marin and to introducing her to you. As always, we appreciate your ongoing commitment and support of our patients and the community we serve.
Take care,
Nelson
