The San Rafael Chamber of Commerce, which represents nearly 625 Marin County employers with over 26,000 employees, supported the proposed Kaiser Permanente Los Gamos Medical Offices Project located at 1650 Los Gamos Drive in San Rafael.

The San Rafael Medical Center main campus was built more than 50 years ago and is an aging facility. In 2015, Kaiser purchased the property with plans to renovate the existing building into medical offices for 70-providers that will better accommodate our community using the most current medical technology and patient centered delivery of care that we expect from our Health Care providers.
    • The medical offices are expected to open in mid-2020 with 315 full and part-time employees at full buildout.
    • The property on Los Gamos Drive is an existing underutilized commercial property and is in great need of modernization and the Project as currently proposed is consistent with the values of the City’s General Plan.
Kaiser Permanente has been a committed and strong supporter of our community for over 60 years; and it comes as no surprise that they did extensive outreach to the surrounding neighborhood relative to the Project. Kaiser listened and addressed neighbor’s concerns. In conclusion, the merits of the Project; including increased economic benefits, enhanced public health benefits, enhanced bicycle and pedestrian improvements,  and intersection improvements far outweigh any significant unavoidable impacts and the Project should be approved.

The San Rafael Chamber of Commerce supports this Project and urged the Planning Commission to approve the necessary Resolution, including the Statement of Overriding Considerations. The planning commission voted to approve the project on Tuesday, August 28th.
