The 2000 census showed the county's population to be 247,289, compared to 1990's census figure of 230,096. this has yielded a growth rate of more than 7.5 percent for the decade. San Rafael's population grew from 48,404 in 1990 to 56,063 in 2000, a ten-year growth rate of 15.8 percent.
