The Real Value of Joining a Chamber of Commerce
Table 1. Chamber Membership is Effective Business Strategy
A national survey* of 2,000 adults reveals that being active in a local chamber of commerce is an effective business strategy because two-thirds of consumers believe that such companies use good practices, are reputable, care about their customers, and are involved in the community.
The percentages in Table 1 show just how effective of a business strategy being active in a chamber really is. For example, consumers say that being active in the local chamber is 23% more effective for communicating that a company uses good practices than it is for making a general statement about the company.
Tabel 2. Major Impact on Small Business
Small businesses represent the largest segment of most local chamber membership rolls, and the study indicates that chamber membership has consistent and powerful benefits for small business members.
The table below indicates that if consumers are aware that a small business is involved with its local chamber great benefits emerge. For example, if consumers know that a small business is a member of the chamber of commerce, the business enjoys a 49% increase in its consumer favorability rating, 73% increase in consumer awareness, a 68% increase in its local reputation, and an 80% increase in the likelihood that consumers will patronize the business in the future.
