International Economic Policy Expert Puspa Amri Joins Faculty Roster
Former Consultant to Ministry of Finance in Indonesia Begins in Fall Semester 2017
Rohnert Park, California - The School of Business and Economics (SBE) at Sonoma State University (SSU) today announced the addition of Dr. Puspa D. Amri as Assistant Professor of Economics, beginning in Fall Semester 2017. Dr. Amri brings expertise in international finance, macroeconomics, and monetary policy, including research on political economy, trade and welfare compensation, and international bank regulation and liberalization. Her teaching experience includes posts with Ithaca College in New York, Pitzer College in California, California State University Long Beach, the University of Indonesia, and the School of Advanced and International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C.
"Dr. Amri is an established instructor who brings unique perspective from outside academia, including positions with the government of Indonesia, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and the Milken Institute,” Dr. Michael Visser, Chair of the Department of Economics said. "Our expectation is that her research interests and teaching success will enrich and broaden students’ experience in the areas of macroeconomics and international finance."
Professor Amri has given talks at the Office of the European Commission in Madrid, Spain, the Australian Institute for International Affairs in Perth, Australia, and at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing, China. She earned a Fulbright Scholarship for her doctoral studies in economics and political science at Claremont Graduate University in California.
Recent papers by Professor Amri include “Policy Inconsistencies and the Political Economy of Currency Crises;” “Credit Booms and Capital Surges: How Tight is the Relationship?;” “Trade and Welfare Compensation: The Missing Links;” “The Political Economy of Financial Sector Supervision and Banking Crises: A Cross-Country Analysis;” and “International Comparisons of Bank Regulation, Liberalization, and Banking Crises.”
